About Me Below :)

About Me
Kristina Ivezaj
My name is Kristina Ivezaj (pronounced ee-vez-eye). I was born in Michigan and moved to New Jersey shortly after, where I lived for most of my life.
When I applied to college, I had no clue what I wanted or how I wanted my college life to be. So, my college applications were a bit rushed and all over the place. I wanted to get a feel for what I could get into and what could potentially be a good fit.
However, when I went to visit UCONN, I didn't want to go anywhere else. The campus was so big, in my opinion, and so beautiful, And they had the major I wanted and great sports. When I got the acceptance letter, I was so excited. For me, at that point, other letters came in, and I didn't really care for them.
I am a big fan of educators. Call me a nerd, but I was always a curious child, and now I want to help children learn. In high school, I was in every program there was to tutor kids. Kids struggle with math nowadays, and with that being my major, I loved teaching them ways to make math easier for them.
Hopefully, at UCONN, I will be able to make great connections and amazing memories for my future. I remember high school as memories, and they were such great ones. So far, it has been such a great semester.
xoxo :)

Curation

Curation:
Through my different art pieces, I hope the importance of art to me is expressed. I have always wanted people to see my work and try to relate it to their lives one way or another. All three of these pieces were made essentially to prove a question I was trying to answer for my AP Art class, which was, "How can I depict womanhood through the beauty of flowers." For me, that meant more symbolically how can I show the flowers representing women. Before I started with every piece, I looked at what different colors, textures, and flowers themselves meant. More than that, I researched different women artists who had also shown womanhood through their eyes of art. With the research, I sketched and made artworks that reflected my research and my skillset. For example, one of my pieces happened to be straight from a photo I took of my mother's bouquet. In another piece, I used the feminine body to create different bodies for every flower's stem. In the third piece, I used the idea of vibrancy to show three chrysanthemums among a neutral, more grassier-looking background. When I think about the changes made to my AP Art sustained investigation, I think of the work I put in after I found what I enjoyed doing. My sustained investigation changed multiple times simply because I wasn't admiring the pieces I was producing at first. They weren't authentic until I found my love for flowers and started to admire their beauty.

I titled this piece “My Hero.” This piece was made closer to three years ago. It was acrylic paint on an illustration board. The title comes from where the subject happens to come from. I enjoy taking real-life pictures and transforming them into real-life paintings. This pink rose was from my mother’s birthday bouquet she had kept on the dining room table. I was so gravitated to this specific flower, so I took a close-up. I ended up using it as a project for my art class in my sophomore year. I also ended up using this piece for my AP Art portfolio. My mom is my biggest supporter, and my parents are my biggest heroes. So, it was such a full-circle moment when I used this piece in my sustained investigation of women’s empowerment.
The title of this piece is “Chrysanthemums Light.” This was made closer to the end of my senior year, as this was also in the portfolio of my previous artifact. This was acrylic paint on a canvas board. This one is more symbolic of the meaning of the chrysanthemums. The flowers have a symbolic meaning to a woman, and so to further draw that attention, I made them specific colors. The background is meant to give sort of a neutral-colored background, the closer you get to each vibrant flower, the more the background lightens. I had fun with this piece because of its trial stages, which I had many of. But it was also one of the closing pieces to my portfolio.

The name of this piece was “Feminine Beauty,” and it was made by myself sometime during my senior year. I can’t give you an exact date because it was made over multiple months. The media for this piece was acrylic paint and canvas board. It is a bouquet of different flowers, with the stems being women's bodies. This piece was made for my AP Art class and was used in the portfolio I submitted to College Board. This piece was made in the highlight of my portfolio's sustained investigation, which was, “How can I depict women empowerment through the beauty of flowers?” As pretty as the flowers and the colors of the flowers are, they symbolize something to women’s suffrage/empowerment, which is why I chose them.

Artist's Note
My original inquiry question was, what does the STEM program look like in America? The significance of this, at least in my personal life, was that I am a STEM major. There are not a lot of conversations when talking about the programs and what happens in the workforce once you graduate with a degree. I hoped to accomplish the importance of some facts for people who are not well-versed in the topic. I did an infographic to help depict important facts without writing essays about it. That way, the average person gets drawn to the words and numbers specifically (since this is a STEM infographic). I considered the numbers a main vocal point in my infographic. I want to help people in the STEM program, or people doubtful about whether to consider it, know that the STEM program continues to grow in America. I hope I managed to excite future STEM majors and educate the world on the career paths in STEM.

I think my portfolio says a lot about me and my personality. I enjoy the creative side when I am not doing a math equation, and I think going through this process helped me realize that I enjoy the balance. I know people who are in the STEM field who don’t express themselves artistically, however, with my website, I wanted to give the impression that you shouldn’t be scared to be yourself. It might not make sense to most people, my love for art, but then my love for math. However, doing these assignments over the last few weeks has made me realize that I do have an equal love for both, and maybe they don’t go hand in hand, but that is ok. I chose to showcase the work I did because I found it important to express myself in many ways more than one. My biggest example would be the artifacts portfolio, where I showcased my love for painting by drawing curations to each of them. Because as much as they are some pretty flowers, they all mean something. I think my design elements relied on what I put in each section of my website. There were a lot of different things I could have made my background. However, I fell in love with this one because it shows a nice balance between solid colors and colorful ones. I think it ties in with solid colors being straightforward, like math, and the blend of different colors and pictures blending with the idea of art and my creative side. I find my accessibility to be straightforward; you can just scroll through my website, and you can read what each section or portfolio assignment is going to be. Peer feedback helped me a lot this semester. I enjoy peer reviewing because it allows you to revise something you thought to be perfect. Even if you didn’t think it was, a second opinion always helps because as you create the website, you have to bear in mind that it is not just a website for you, there will be an audience that will view what you want them to. So you want to make sure you want to express yourself correctly, and sometimes that can be difficult when you are the only person judging. I learned from my peers many things, but I also learned how constructive feedback should be used. And how to give positive, effective feedback to others. The habits that this course allowed me to showcase made me realize the different types of ways of approaching a topic or an issue. The curations, for example, I enjoyed because they are my thoughts. I think the future of this portfolio is unknown, but I am really glad that I got to experience something like this in a class because it was interesting and something I didn’t think I would appreciate as much as I do. My first fall semester went well, and I am excited for the spring. :)
